However, if you are looking to pack yourself, you may find it to be quite a daunting task and not know where to start. First things first, you need to get the right packing materials for your move. We will run you through all the packing supplies that you may need when you move home.
Before hastily diving right in, you should make sure that you have all your packing materials first. The last thing you want to do is be on a roll and you annoyingly run out of tape or your marker pen stops working.

Cardboard and Plastic Boxes
No move is complete without a few cardboard boxes. Cardboard boxes, when of the right quality, are versatile and a great way of transporting your belongings. Note when we say ‘the right quality’ – a lot of people tend to look for the cheapest option when buying moving boxes, however, sometimes cheaper is not always best. You want something that is sturdy enough to hold your heavier items and can withstand moving around without breaking. Cardboard boxes come in all different shapes and sizes which is great for larger and smaller, more fragile items.
We don’t advise buying plastic boxes, unless you are using them for storage later. Making use of these as packing boxes if you already have them is great! Not only are they more expensive than the cardboard alternative, but they are also trickier to store away after you’ve unpacked.
Wrapping Materials
Again wrapping materials vary and what you need will be dependent on how much protection you need over your items.
Packing Paper – This is great for filling in gaps in boxes, and for added protection for breakables such as glass or ceramics. Packing paper is particularly good when it comes to items with delicate surfaces as it doesn’t leave any marks or stains.
Bubble Wrap – Bubble wrap is your best friend when it comes to packing up. It gives your fragile items that bubbly cushion it needs. Just make sure to tape the bubble wrap to your items so they don’t fall out.
Moving Blankets – When moving large items you may want to seek out some moving blankets. Not to worry if you can’t find exactly that as any old blanket will do as long as it covers your items to stop them from getting dirty.
Packing Tape – Packing tape is often underestimated when it comes to getting a good quality one. Some cheaper types you may find don’t have enough stick so can peel off especially when moving around. Not only will you be using this tape to secure the top of boxes shut, but also the bottom. Having good quality tape is a must to stop your belongings from falling through.
Marker Pen – When packing up your boxes it is important that you also label your boxes so that you know exactly what inside each one.
