How to minimise stress in the days before and after your move

Aug 16, 2021 | News

Everyone knows that moving home can be one of the most stressful things we do in our lifetime.

Hiring a professional removal team can really take the weight of your shoulders and help to make your moving day go without a hitch. Now that the day is taken care of, what about the days leading up to and after your moving day?

There’s a lot to organise before moving day comes and when you get to your new property and it can easily build to become a stressful situation.

We have put together some handy tips to help you minimise stress – see below.

Get a packing team in

Packing up your entire life into a van is never fun and it can be extremely time-consuming. If you work full-time too it can leave you feeling unsettled and rushed to get everything done before moving day.

At Abbey Removals we offer a packing service which helps to take the stress out of the days leading up to your move and ensures the safety of your belongings too.

Removals Insurance

Rather than worrying about potential problems in transit, making sure you have removals insurance in place will help to put your mind at rest – you’re financially covered. Check with your removals team first whether this is something that they provide or whether you need to get this separately. In some cases, home insurance can cover you but do check with your insurance provider in advance.

Make a list and stick to it

It’s always useful to make a list of all the little jobs that are outstanding and need to be done before you move home. This saves you from accidentally forgetting anything important. We are all guilty of making lists and misplacing them or just simply forgetting you’ve made them. Try to keep your list somewhere in eyesight to help you remember – somewhere like the fridge, bedside table or even bathroom can help!

Make sure when you make a list too to make it realistic and achievable.

Get a good sleep

We all hope to get a good sleep every night but making sure that you start the day on your best foot will help you be more productive throughout the day. We all get tempted to pull a late night to try to cram as much in as possible but sometimes that’s not always the best option. When we get tired we make silly mistakes so making sure you’re well rested is a must.

Make a furniture plan

Once you’ve purchased your property and are starting the moving home process, it’s a good idea to start making a furniture plan. A plan of where everything will go in your new home. Knowing where all your large pieces of furniture will go such as, sofa, bed and fridge/freezer, will save you a lot of confusion on moving day deciphering where everything should go. It will also prevent you moving everything around on the first few days in your new home.

Label your boxes

We’ve said it before but we will say it again – don’t forget to label your boxes! Labeling your boxes may seem a little mundane but it will help you in the long run. Having labels on all sides of your boxes will help you when it comes to moving day and knowing what goes where and what to unpack first.

Moving home is meant to be an exciting time so why not make sure it is. At Abbey Removals we are here to help with your removal needs so why not give us a call to arrange your move today!
