Jun 19, 2023 | News

Whether you are moving in as a new tenant or are simply just moving homes, cleaning your new home before you move in is essential. However, don’t assume deep cleaning your home is going to be a walk in the park. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine where to start when cleaning, but we have come up with a few tips and tricks that can help you out!

Keep it clear

When going in for a deep clean, whether it’s just as you move in or later on, keeping the area you are cleaning as clear as possible will help massively. Not only will you have more space to move around in but you will also avoid getting anything else dirty in the process.

A good thing to do when doing a deep clean is to protect your walkways in your house so you avoid treading in any dirt or debris whilst moving around. If you have large bulky furniture in your home make sure to cover these too!

Curtain cleaning

A lot of people forget to clean the curtains when doing a deep clean and in some cases it can be a pretty big job. Curtains can brighten a room so it is a good idea to keep these clean and fresh. However, be aware that curtains cannot just be put in the washing machine as they are highly prone to shrinkage. If you need them washing many specialist laundrettes will do so for you.

As well as curtains, cleaning blinds should also be considered during your deep clean. These can sometimes collect dust, so using a lint-free cloth is a great accessory to use to wipe these!

Painting

Many homes have a neutral interior when moving in and it is likely that you may want to give your home a lick of paint so that it looks more homely and reflects your personality. It is best to get the painting out of the way before moving everything into your new home. It can save you a lot of effort in the future covering everything and moving furniture about to get the job done right.

Work your way down

When cleaning a lot of people only clean what is in eyesight. However, a lot of dust can accumulate from the ceiling downward. So when you are cleaning don’t go straight to hoovering, start dusting from the ceiling down to the walls and finally the skirting and floors. This will save you time having to redo cleaning the floors as dust will fall.

Carpet cleaning

If you aren’t planning on recarpeting and your carpets are looking a little tired you may need to hire professional equipment to do an effective job. There are a number of cleaning machines you can rent out (usually from supermarkets) which will make the job a lot easier. However, if you have a hard time cleaning your carpet, especially in traffic areas, you may want to look at hiring a professional who will make easy work of it.

Kitchen and Bathroom

Depending on the condition your kitchen and bathroom has been left in it may be quite a big job to deep clean. Kitchen’s can acquire a significant build up of grease and debris and for the bathroom mold. Again, start from the ceilings down and where necessary remove and reapply silicone. Sugar soap is great to use to ensure all your tiles and surfaces are extra clean.
