With tougher measures enforced during April, to help stop the spread of the deadly disease Coronavirus, there has been speculation as to whether homeowners can still move home during this time.
Certainly, daily activities have had to be adjusted due to the disease, including some households being furloughed and other’s home-schooling because of schools being closed. But are you allowed to move to a new house?
Ultimately, the Government has urged people not to move home at the moment if at all possible. They are also advising that you shouldn’t undertake any significant renovations on your existing homes either This limits the pressure on the NHS and also minimises the spread from introducing trades into your home.
The Government has advised that buyers and renters should delay moving day whilst the measures are still in place – we are yet to hear anything regarding relaxing the lockdown measures that are in place.
Whilst the death rate in the UK is lowering – this doesn’t necessarily mean that the spread of the disease is coming to an end.
Not only can moving home increase the spread of the disease, it is also increasingly getting harder to put your home onto the market. Lots of estate agents and solicitors are closed or have a limited team and prioritising more important enquiries.
You may even find that whilst speaking with estate agents over the phone is still possible, with general advice about your property being managed, they are not able to start marketing your property in the usual way.
Some are opting to put their home for sale on Facebook sharing pages – but please be wary and follow the social distancing guidelines set out by the Government, and certainly don’t have any viewings during this time. These guidelines are in place for a reason so make sure that you’re following them to protect our NHS and save lives.
