Moving home and itching to start packing? Before you do, be sure to think about your first-day necessities. These essentials regularly get overlooked but are extremely important for a successful first day in your new home. It can be easy to forget the small things with the craziness of the relocation process – planning, packing, and well, moving. The last thing that you will want to do once you’ve moved is frantically look for your phone charger or toothbrush. So, we have put together a list of things that are easily overlooked but important for when you first arrive at your new home.
Cleaning supplies
We’ve all done it, dreamt of what it would be like the first moment in your new home. Cupboards are pristine, floors and toilets gleaming, however, in reality, that’s not always the case. In fact, there is a good chance that the home you are moving into, unless it’s a new build, won’t be in tip-top shape when you arrive. Even if the previous homeowners have the place cleaned before moving in the chances are it’s not how you like it. So in your essentials box don’t forget to include cleaning supplies such as:
- Paper towels
- Multi-purpose spray, cloths and sanitising wipes
- Small vacuum
- Broom and dustpan
- Toilet cleaner
- Air freshener
Corkscrew
Moving into a new home is a great reason to celebrate. Perhaps you’re planning to open a bottle of fizz on arrival. If you are, you will want to know where you’ve put the corkscrew. So rather than searching through a sea of boxes, make sure you have one handy in your essentials box.
Hangers
When packing up be sure to pack hangers too. These can be put into a plastic bin liner and labelled so you can easily find them when you arrive. Once you have arranged your kitchen and made the beds, put the hangers in the wardrobes ready for when you unpack your clothes. There’s nothing worse than searching around to find something to hand your clothes up with!
Batteries
An item that is commonly overlooked is batteries. These are in fact the most important. Whether it’s for the TV remote, smoke detector, or torch you’re going to want some batteries on hand!
Toothbrushes
When moving you are going to want to know where your toothbrush is located – not forgetting, the toothpaste too! Make sure you have a box clearly labelled with all your toiletries that you are going to need for the day in your new home.
Toolkit
Whilst you might not be quite hanging pictures yet in your new home you are going to need a few toolkit essentials for assembling furniture and opening boxes! This includes items such as:
- Scissors
- Utility knife
- Measuring tape
- Screwdriver
- Drill
- Pliers
- Hammer
Chargers
With technology so advanced these days everything needs some sort of charging cable. These are easily just tossed into the last box to pack but what’s usually last in needs to be first out. Bear this in mind and keep your chargers all in one place and safe where you can easily find them.
