Moving home is very exciting however, it’s something that we don’t tend to look forward to because of everything else that is associated with it. There is a LOT to organise, but it’s not impossible to achieve without the stress if you plan your move correctly.
There’s lots of tips and tricks out there and it’s best to choose what works best for you. Everyone is different and some ways can take longer for you than it does to others. The key to a successful and stress-free move is to make sure you have a plan which you can follow step-by-step.
Packing is one of the biggest things you will need to account for when making your plan. Packing needs to be done correctly not just to ensure that you have no breakages in transit but so you don’t waste vital space that you may need in your removals van.
We have compiled a list of packing tips that will come in handy to save you money and time when moving home.
Boxes Boxes Boxes
When it comes to packing your possessions, you’ll be surprised how many boxes that you will need. It is a good idea to have a range of different sized boxes for bigger and smaller items – to keep smaller items safe. Boxes can, if you have a lot to pack, cost a fortune. Hunt around for some free cardboard boxes – usually supermarkets and local shops will have these. Not only will it save you a lot of money, but you will also be doing your bit for the environment to reuse unwanted packaging.
Pack Important Stuff Last
It may sound like you are defeating the object of packing by leaving some stuff out – however you will thank us for it. There are probably items that you use regularly such as toiletries, clothes, chargers, cutlery etc. It is pointless getting packing happy when you will just need to unpack these again. It can waste valuable time you could be spending doing something else – especially if you forget to label your boxes too!
Pack by Room
Start packing one room at a time starting from the least used – bedrooms. If you pack by room you can guarantee that when you get to your new home it will be so much easier to unpack.
Fill the Gap
Make sure when you are packing that you really pack everything in tight. This means that instead of leaving gaps between your items, to fill them with bubble wrap or even packing paper. This will stop your items clanging against one another in transit.
